Has the FDIC Read Their Own Information Security Guidelines?

The Truston Identity Theft Blog has a very interesting post on personal information requested on the FDIC website in an unsecure format. Perhaps a little agency refresher on their own Guidelines for Safeguarding Customer Information is warranted.

In 2005, the FDIC also experienced a breach whereby confidential personal information on former employees was comprimised. This lead to a special review by the FDIC's Inspector General, who reported that the agency "has experienced several breaches involving personal employee information."
